There has been a noticeable increase in the reports of ‘Theft of Metal’ within our policing area, particularly the theft of aluminium, writes Suffolk Constabulary.
Targeted premises include window and caravan manufacturers. The offenders have shown themselves to be ‘determined’ and have used violence to effect one particular offence. Holders, transporters and manufacturers of such materials are advised to review current security systems and procedures in an attempt to prevent or deflect offences.
Any information relating to offenders should be passed on to your local Police, advises Les King, Crime Reduction Officer for Suffolk Constabulary (tel. 01473 613500).
Aluminium systems supplier Sapa comments:
One of aluminium’s greatest assets is that it is a recyclable product and, because both painted and unpainted aluminium can be recycled, it is a potential target for thieves. Over the years some of our customers have experienced incidents of theft.
We don’t specifically advise our customers on this particular aspect although we always recommend they secure their stock to prevent loss.
