Overall the group reported a 30 per cent increase in pre-tax profits for the year ended 31 March 2001, from £19.2m to £25.1m. Annual turnover was up 20 per cent from £346.5m to £415.4m, as earnings per share increased by 23 per cent to 5p.
The main driver for growth in support services was an increased number of contracts in the principal disciplines; cleaning, engineering maintenance and managed services.
In 2000 Mitie formed several relationships within the facilities management industry, including an association with Trillium resulting from the Prime project contract with the DSS.
Mitie also made progress in the financial sector, bagging contracts with WS Atkins for cleaning services at Barclays Bank and a contract with Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest to clean all buildings in the north of England and Scotland. The contract is valued at about £8m per year.
