Movers and shakers this week
On the Up  Alan Lamerton has been promoted to commercial director of Amec. Lamerton is currently Amec's chief operating officer, which includes responsibility for the Infrastructure Business Unit. AMEC has also appointed Stephen Bowcott, 47, as managing director of the Infrastructure Business Unit. Bowcott joins from John Mowlem, where he was group performance director and managing director of their Building Division.

FaberMaunsell, has appointed Paul Foster to lead its work in the UK education sector with immediate effect. Foster will move from his current role heading FaberMaunsell's programme management team where over the last two years he has made a significant impact.

Wates Interiors has appointed Brian Bell as national business development manager. Bell is responsible for expanding the brand in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol.

The Cambridge business area of Bluestone has appointed Neil Morrison, 51, as business development team leader.

The Bristol office of consultant Tuffin Ferraby and Taylor has recruited Paul Miles to their project management team.

Building and property services contractor Ian Williams has appointed Mike Turner as business development director. He was formerly with Hochtief.

Stephen Freeth has joined building surveyor Roughton London as a director.

Paul Clifford will head the transportation team of technical management consultant Babtie Group.

Morgan Lovell has promoted Danny Green to account manager. He'll be responsible for building business in London.

Parting company  Simons MD Cliff Bryant, 44, has stepped down. The press reported that he disagreed with the board over whether to consolidate or continue his programme of expansion, which saw the family firm grow into a £250m turnover company with the help of framework agreements with major food retailers.

Amey chief executive Brian Staples resigned with a £287,000-a-year payoff after another profit warning in December.

And sadly Derek Hammond MSc FCIOB died last month. Derek had been working closely with the CIOB since 1991 as Chair of the Working Group for the development of the Code of Practice for Project Management, the third of which was published in September 2002 (see page 38). The success of this publication is a tribute to Derek's enthusiasm and dedication.
