Nick Gibb
Willmott Dixon claims it is set to start an industry trend with the appointment of Gibb as one of the sector’s first dedicated pre-construction managers. Gibb’s remit will be to bring client and contractor teams together at design inception stage and manage this process. This early involvement enables clients to benefit from Willmott Dixon’s experience in areas like design, ‘buildability’ and value engineering during the crucial planning stage and improves efficiency by creating more openness, trust and understanding among teams.
Martin Brook
Carillion has promoted Brook to chief estimator. A member of the CIOB Accreditation panel, he is past chairman of South Wales, Cardiff and Coventry & Warwickshire Centres. Brook will be leading bids for Midlands projects and national PFI hospitals. He will promote integration between design and build disciplines on major projects and encourage clients to recognise the benefits of involving construction specialists earlier in the process.
Craig Currie
Midas Projects (UK), part of the Midas Group, has appointed Currie as director of its retail division. Currie, former construction director at the Warwickshire based Pettifer Group, will build on Midas’ presence in the supermarket and food sector and seek to expand Midas’ role in the high street and non-food sector.
John Balmain
Formerly commercial manager for Bovis Lend Lease, where he was responsible for a £65m apartment development on the Thames, Balmain joins conversion specialist City & Country Group as Quantity Surveyor.
David Fearon
Law firm Halliwells has launched a new construction department at its Sheffield office with the recruitment of partner Fearon from DLA. Fearon, a solicitor-advocate, had been at DLA since 1998. He is also a chartered builder (MCIOB), chartered quantity surveyor (MRICS), Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb), cost engineer (MACostE) and registered adjudicator (AICA).
Sharon Tyer
Housing provider Lovell has appointed Tyer as regional training advisor for the company’s North East region. Her role includes coordinating staff development training and managing apprentices across the region.

Former KPMG director David Richards has joined Pickavance Consulting as director of its London office. David was head of the Engineering & Construction Disputes team at KPMG; previously he led the Contract and Dispute Services team at Mouchel Consulting.
David McLean Contractors has announced the promotion of John Farr to director. Farr joined David McLean nine years ago, and in his time with the company has specialised in the partnering relationship with Shell UK. Recently Farr has guided retail relationships with a wider client base, however.
Project and cost management consultancy Faithful and Gould has extended its London team with the appointment of Jonathan Mobbs as senior project manager.
James Anderson has joined TPS Schal’s expanding project management team in Scotland.
Joining Newcastle-based Kajima Construction Europe (UK) are operations manager, Jim Petterson, site manager Ken Brumby and 3D design co-ordinator, Chris Piggins.
