Siemens Building Technologies has appointed Clark MacFarlane as its managing director for the UK. MacFarlane – who holds a Masters Degree in engineering, as well as an MBA – joins the company from the Power Generation Division at Siemens, where he headed a team that doubled UK turnover from £200 million in under four years.

David Jones has recently taken up the post of senior security manager in the financial crime management section at the Barclays Group headquarters. David’s primary focus in the role – based at Canary Wharf in London’s Docklands – concerns the protective security of Barclays’ corporate premises (with a global overview across 60 different countries). He joins the Barclays Group from T-Mobile (UK), where he served as a regional security manager for over three years.

Having served with the company for five years, David Hynds has been appointed commercial director at major UK distributor Gardiner Security. The new role has been created with the aim of developing the organisation’s ability to service the needs and requirements of a growing and diversifying client base. David will now oversee product management, marketing and purchasing while continuing to develop export and telesales alongside the e-commerce channel.

Digby Ram – the managing director of IBP International – has been elected Convenor of the European Committee for Standardisation Technical Committee Working Group 4 (CEN TC263 WG4), which is directly responsible for creating standards focusing on stained bank note detection systems. A veteran of the cash degradation industry, Ram was a leading player in the creation of the British Standards Institution’s PAS 40 document which set UK minimum guidelines for cash degradation systems in 2002.

The specialist global maritime security concern Securewest International has announced the appointment of Shawn Jay Winter as its special operations and training manager for Europe and the Middle East. The role will see the former European Military Sealift Command Anti-Terrorism Force protection director deliver numerous security training courses, including the security officer induction course.

Paul Drury becomes the latest consultant to work at Churchill Recruitment, the nationwide security recruitment operation. Paul joins Churchill from the House of Fraser, where he has spent the past four years working as a loss prevention manager. Not surprisingly, Paul will now be focusing on management positions within the retail/loss prevention and commercial sectors.

Ben Grant has been appointed chairman of the Security Seal Industry Association (SSIA). Presently the managing director of OEM Secureseal, Grant will take up this key industry appointment for a two-year period. The SSIA sets industry standards for security seals in the transportation sector, one of its main aims being the protection of customers from forgeries and unreliable products.

Stanley Security Solutions (Europe) has appointed Bruce Ginnever as its chief operating officer. The company – a global leader in the field of integrated time, security and communications products – incorporates the former Blick Group. Ginnever’s main role will be to drive growth, and focus on genuinely integrated security solutions for the end user community. He joined Blick in 1992, and was a Board director when Stanley acquired the Swindon-based firm in 2004.

As part of its continued expansion into the IP arena, Chris Lewis Security Services has employed Alan Jones as its new business development manager. Alan – an experienced security consultant – will now be responsible for working with the company’s IT Department in developing the IP range (with a particular focus on CCTV and access control solutions).

Griffid – the developer of hardware-independent management applications for viewing and recording video from digital CCTV cameras – has appointed 35-year-old Edwin Roobol as sales director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Roobol is tasked with developing a defined distribution and sales channel. For the past five years, Edwin has been working at Axis Communications – the IP camera specialist – helping to strengthen the company’s sales in the Benelux region.

Hi-Sec International recently promoted Carsten Eickhardt to the position of manager (technical services). Reporting to Martin Hildebrand, the company’s managing director, Eickhardt is responsible for all aspects of technical support, product testing and documentation and IT. Carsten began his career at Hi-Sec back in 1999, assuming the role of IT manager. He was previously employed as a project manager at Great Nordic NKT Electronics.

Andy Proudfoot joins Croma Shawley – part of the Croma Group plc – from GE Security’s Fibre Communications Division to take on the post of sales manager. Andy has worked in the electronic side of the security industry for over three decades, spending the past two years with Shawley where he assumed direct responsibility for southern area sales.

Having worked at Dedicated Micros, Honeywell and Sensormatic, Paul Scott will now be helping digital recording solutions developer Dowshu expand its network-driven sales, define manufacturing and development goals and continue to ensure the company grows its reputation for producing high quality, real-time DVRs.

F-Secure has just appointed former Computer 2000 general manager Richard Hales as its UK and Ireland manager. In his new role, 38-year-old Hales is directly responsible for sales in both countries.
