The International Institute of Security has announced the appointment of John Allan as its new chief executive. John has been the Institute's financial director for the past five years, and now takes over the role vacated by Peter Jones (who continues as a director with responsibility for international liaison). He has enjoyed a career in the security industry spanning more than two decades, serving for the past five years as a Government security advisor to the defence sector. John holds the prestigious post-graduate Diploma in Security Management from Loughborough University.

The former head of security at The Bank of England has teamed up with one of the UK's foremost training providers. Bill Wyllie - who joins Droitwich-based Train 4 Security as a non-executive director - is also the current chairman of The Security Institute. He has previously acted as an external examiner for both MA and MSc security degree courses, and as an advisor to several academic institutions. Bill's role will include advising the Board on the needs of the security profession, and helping the company to focus its training courses on client needs.

Leading alarm management solutions provider Bold Communications has appointed Shaun Gabriel as technical consultant. Shaun - who served as the distribution security manager at the JD Group for the past three years - will be responsible for supporting Bold's business in their retail markets, and in particular for IP alarm communications.

Chris Allenby has joined Norprint Labelling Systems as operations manager for the company's Systems Division, where he will assume direct responsibility for the Projects Department and its team of mobile engineers. Chris' team at the security tagging and labelling specialist will develop, implement and maintain thermal printers and label applications nationwide for clients from the food, pharmaceuticals and many other commercial and industrial sectors.

The ongoing development of BSB Electronics - the Lancashire-based manufacturer of Progeny access control systems - has led to a strengthening of the company's sales and marketing teams. Heading up the team is sales and marketing director Steve Colquhoun, who boasts over 20 years' experience in the industry having held managerial roles at BT and Unisys. Reporting to Steve are James Vian and Guy Willott. Both join the company as business development managers to foster improved links with existing customers, and to profit from new leads in the south, north and the Midlands. Charlotte Hesketh also joins as sales assistant.

Bo Dankis has stood down as chief executive at Assa Abloy to be replaced by Johan Molin. Since 2001, Molin has served as president and CEO of the Danish industrial group Nilfisk-Advance. During this period, Molin presided over a successful turnaround of the company's fortunes (to the extent that he leaves it as a world leader in the sphere of industrial and commercial cleaning and maintenance systems for machinery). Prior to this, Molin worked at the Atlas Copco Group. Molin holds a business degree from the Stockholm School of Economics.

Memex Technology - a leader in the field of secure intelligence management software - has appointed Mark Gibson as sales director. Mark will now assume responsibility for strengthening sales across both the UK and European markets, in turn building on the company's already strong reputation in the UK law enforcement sector. A third of the UK's 43 constabularies already use Memex technologies. Mark boasts over 12 years' experience in the European IT security sector, having recently worked for DoubleClick. He will also be responsible for the European Partner Programme.

Sony has reinforced its commitment to CCTV and network video monitoring through the creation of a strengthened team of dedicated specialists. The team is headed up by Paul Hennessy (below), director of UK and Ireland operations. Sid Stanley is the senior manager for Enterprise Solutions, focusing on the development of innovative IP and CCTV projects. Rob Newton has the role of marketing manager, while Chris Brown is the business development manager for network video monitoring and CCTV. CCTV sales responsibility rests with account manager Naz Mustaghfar, while internal account manager Michael Borthwick joins to provide support for the CCTV reseller channel team.

Keith Richardson has been appointed as the new EMPS (Screening, Dismissals Database and Criminality Checks) manager for Lodge Service, the Whetstone-based loss prevention and profit protection specialist. Keith has a number of years' experience of screening and vetting. Keith and his team - comprising Ben McAdam, Stephanie Grayson and Michael Bennett - will be based at the company's new Darlington offices.
