The Pyronix-sponsored BSIA Apprentice Systems Installer Awards were presented by the Princess Royal, president of the Patrons of Crime Concern, at the BSIA’s annual lunch at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
Sean Hogan of AC Controls, responsible for installing new equipment at various high security locations, was the overall winner, having spent several months in France working on important security projects and also made recommendations on increasing security levels following the events of September 11.

Simon Lawrence of Initial Electronic Security and Stephen Davidson of ADT Fire and Security were named national winners.

BSIA chief executive, David Dickinson, said: “Apprentices are the future of the installation sector. We need young people who are professional, well-trained and have a genuine enthusiasm for their career.”

The Awards were launched last year to recognise apprentice installers who have shown a great deal of promise and commitment to quality. The judging categories cover theoretical grasp, range of technologies dealt with and customer interface skills.

The BSIA’s Chairman’s Awards were also announced at the event to recognise outstanding contributions to the security industry. John Finney, former technical manager at the BSIA won an award for his contribution to Standards.

The Corp’s Tower Hamlets Warden Team won recognition for their contribution to the community, Noble Security Services won with the Trafford Guardsafe scheme for its contribution to training, and joint winners Digby Ram, chairman of the BSIA Cash and Property Marking Section, and Alan Townsend, crime prevention co-ordinator of the Flying Squad both won awards for promoting the industry.
