Speaking exclusively to SMT about Arup's latest venture, John Haddon said: "Security is being taken more and more seriously now because building owners and operators realise the increasing threats posed by human misconduct. No building can ever be 100% secure, but security managers can mitigate the risks by good design and planning."
A major aim of Arup's strategy is to limit the need for an overt security presence, integrating passive measures into a given building's design. "The design should provide a balance between architecture, landscaping, operational and electronic measures," stressed Haddon.
