The inaugural meeting of the Asia Region FM Group took place on 7 November 2005 at the British High Commission in Singapore.

Twenty people attended the meeting, which was opened by Jim Ure with a presentation on the work of CIBSE and the objectives of the FM Group.

Jim reported that the FM Group had some 1450 members worldwide, with 189 of these in the Asia region. He welcomed the opportunity for the sharing of knowledge and ideas between Asia and the UK that the formation of this regional group would encourage. Jim thanked all those in attendance for their support – particularly Harry Woon of FM Connect and David Lum of CPG – for taking the role of joint regional co-ordinators.

Harry Woon set out his objectives: to build a thriving and enthusiastic forum for promoting the importance of building services to successful FM and to encourage the sharing of knowledge throughout the region and with the UK. The following volunteered to be members of the organising committee:

Secretary

Alex Lau

Newsletter/Production

Yip Yuen Leong

This marks a major achievement for the FM Group in the development of international liaison. It will give members the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the global FM market and the challenges and opportunities it presents.
