The introduction of European Standards has seen manufacturers launch a raft of new products in the intruder sector to comply with the new grading system. Here we offer a round up of some of the latest control panel developments on the market...

Cool blue Castle

Castle Care-Tech has added a 'cool blue' keypad to its Euro G range of control panels. The new keypad has a 32 character LCD display and cool blue glossy encapsulated backlit keys creating a modern look suitable for both residential and commercial environments.

It features two fully programmable zones, one programmable output, one pulse speaker output, in-built prox reader, and 'plug-on' terminal blocks for ease of wiring. The Euro G range meets both Grade 2 and Grade 3 requirements, with a base panel of eight to 16 zones at Grade 2, and memory cards boosting the system to 256 zones in either iD or EOL configuration, to meet Grade 3 level.

In the Zoneguard

Hoyles Electronic developments has released Zoneguard, a Grade 3 'zone omit' unit. This fits between intruder detection devices and a control panel to allow devices to be securely and safely omitted and re-installed without generating false alarms.

Zoneguard's design allows 'end of line' resistors for each condition to be passed to the control panel unimpeded for monitoring directly by the panel.

In its simplest mode the integral keyswitch is used to omit or reinstate two detection zones. Other modes use the integral keypad or external devices such as biometric readers or a combination of keyswitch and keypad, useful where dual responsibility is needed. Two timed entry/exit modes are also available.

All kitted out

Challenger has extended its intruder alarm kit range with the introduction of the Eurosec CPX - an eight zone kit with built-in autodialler and LCD remote keypad.

The new CPX alarm kit is the most advanced in the range, and features Grade 2 capabilities. The panel has an onboard communicator and speech dialler, giving the user the ability to programme a messaging service in the case of alarm activation via the speech dialler, which will call a combination of four landline or mobile telephone numbers.

The panel can also accommodate wireless accessories including wireless standard PIRs and PET detectors, a universal contact, smoke detectors and key fobs, if fitted with the optional GTX 8 zone wireless receiver.

Entry to Grade 3

Honeywell has launched its Galaxy 3 Series, a 48 zone intruder alarm panel that offers full compliance with EN50131-1 to grade 3.

Honeywell says the G3-48 "gives installers a high specification 'entry level' grade 3 alarm, providing 16 onboard programmable zones… It includes all the functionality of the larger Galaxy 3 Series panels, but at a price that is more cost-effective for smaller residential and commercial applications that have high value contents, requiring a grade 3 alarm system".

The panel features intelligent 1.5A power supply unit that provides diagnostic information such as battery status to maintain reliability of the system.

The G3-48 is fully backwards compatible with existing Galaxy alarm systems and peripherals, and employs the familiar Galaxy interface to make it easy to upgrade existing Galaxy panels.

SigNet hatched

Europlex has launched its SigNet range of alarm control panels - the SigNet 100, 200 and 300. These provide a solution for both Grade 2 domestic and commercial Grade 3 applications.

"SigNet packs in all the salient features needed for alarm installation into a single, compact package," Europlex says. "SigNet, across the different products, offers from 32 to 512 zones, wired and wireless as standard. The new system has been designed with the security installer in mind. It has been simplified at the front end using configuration templates that minimise the options that the engineer has to work through, providing quick installation. The SigNet can be configured and maintained remotely, allowing quicker installation and maintenance.

"SigNet allows intruder alarm systems to be integrated with video and access control equipment, and can also provide control over building functions such as lighting and heating."

Infinite possibilities

ESP's Infinite alarm panel offers "wire free ease of installation with market proven reliability, giving the installer a comprehensive intruder alarm solution that can be fitted with ease and minimum disruption," the company says.

In addition to its intruder alarm capabilities, the system features a number of optional modules which can be simply plugged in to add functionality.

These include module 1, INF-COMMS, which enables two-way automatic communications via a standard telephone line to up to three pre-set numbers; module 2, INF-HA, which offers remote or programmed control of up to 16 240v devices around the home without any further wiring; and module 3, INF-GSM, which allows communication and control of the Infinite system to and from a mobile phone on the GSM network.

Simon says...

GE has made available the Simon 3 GSM Cellular Module, which adds cellular communications capability to the residential Simon security system. The new module fits within the existing Simon 3 housing.

GE says that because the Simon Cellular Module is wireless, it is not vulnerable to phone line or Internet connection failures, and both the module and the control panel can operate properly and reliably for over 24 hours during a persistent power outage.

"Installing the unit into any new or installed Simon 3 panel is made simple through the use of a modified rear housing that ships with the Cellular Module," GE says. "The installer simply removes the standard chassis and replaces it with the cellular kit."

New in Gardtec range

Risco Group has launched the Gardtec 490x, which allows installers to offer the same system as the popular Gardtec range of control panels but with wireless expansion.

The 490x is a completely hybrid system and follows the PD6662 and EN 50131-1 Grade 2 standards. Both the 490x and the 480 are suitable for residential and commercial applications.

The company says that having studied the EN 50131 standards, it has applied them to its products. The 490x has a larger metal end station to accommodate a 9 Amp battery with space for wiring. It is expandable up to 9-16 zones via zone doubling with 15 user codes and 300 event logs. It has an onboard modem and communicator and upload/download remote programming capabilities.
