English Heritage has launched HELM (Historic Environment Local Management), a web-based guidance and training service aimed at planners, engineers, estate managers and elected members within local authorities and government agencies. The goal is to speed up decision-making on planning applications for developments in historic environments. The website contains a bank of case studies, accessible by region or by theme. Training, supported by material on the website, will be available from September this year. www.helm.org.uk
