Multi-disciplinary giant Atkins triumphed as Consultant of the Year at this year’s Building Awards, held on Tuesday night at the Grosvenor House hotel in central London.

The firm won the plaudit at the awards, organised by QS News’ sister title, for work on schemes such as the Chancellor Park primary school in Chelmsford, Essex (pictured left) and the pedestrianisation of Trafalgar Square. Last year Atkins almost trebled its global profit and is opening up new areas of work with innovations such as its noise map of London and award-winning Medway Bridge in Kent.

It beat off shortlisted firms Cyril Sweett, Mott MacDonald, Ridge, Turner & Townsend and White Young Green. Other winners included Mace who was named Project/Construction Manager of the Year and Vector Special Projects, who won the Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
