Last year alone, a staggering 83% of all intruder alarm calls passed to the police for attendance in the MPS area were false.
The awards scheme, run by the MPS in association with BT RedCARE, is divided into three categories and judged according to number of installations. The winner of each category recorded the lowest average false alarm rate – per system, per year – for the period 1 April 2000 to 31 March 2001.
For the Large Installers category Banham Alarms came first (taking the Gold Award). Chubb Electronic Security took second place (Silver), with ADT Fire and Security winning the Bronze Award.
The Medium-Sized Installers category saw Westec Security take the spoils, with the London East Security Centre second and British Gas Home Security third.
For the Small Installers award Blitz Security Group triumphed, with Telecom Security Direct placed second and Security Masters third.
Presenting the awards, commander Ron McPherson – communications programmes manager at the MPS – said: "A reduction in false alarm calls can only be achieved with the co-operation of the private security industry. This awards scheme recognises their tremendous contribution to this objective."
