Aztec Conservatory Roof Systems is on a winning streak this year– in more ways than one, says its Managing Director Colin Bennett.
The conservatory roof systems company is lending financial support to Dave Boot, himself a roof fabricator, in his Thunderbikes challenge, and to Neil Boardman in his first season of the Opel Telecom North West Formula Ford Championship. Both have got off to a flying start, collecting the winner’s laurels in races at Anglesey and Oulton Park.
Thankfully, success isn’t confined to the racetrack. ‘Whereas a lot of roof systems companies are struggling, we are going from strength to strength,’ says Colin. ‘Our customer base has grown by at least 15%. All of our existing customers are remaining profitable and in business. We are making significant investment in new product development. We have already organised two highly successful, over-subscribed customer team-building events. We have spent months quietly concentrating our efforts on developing our team and our partnerships with customers, effort that is now reaping rewards.’
New faces
New to the Aztec team is Duncan Bennett, who complements the established combination of Rob Small and Gordon Cooke. Duncan will be responsible for the computer technology and new product development, working closely with Rob and Gordon.
Explains Colin, ‘We believe we are unusual in the amount of technical support we give our customers both when they first become partners with us, and on an ongoing basis.
‘The industry is changing, and most of our fabricators are now involved in more complex roofs that require a higher level of engineering than a standard 3 x 3 but with our system that can be achieved very efficiently, with minimal components. From a positive point of view, these roofs also inevitably demand a higher price and higher profit, which is why our customers are still trading profitably without having to make cut-backs.
The first new product, the ridge connector, has already been launched. Imminent is a new jack rafter system that will again simplify and accelerate fabrication. A new fire wall bracket is also being developed, that will bring benefits to the installer, enabling the ring beam to simply clip-fix to the fire wall.
