Douglas Greenwell, marketing director at Group 4 Securicor, decided to go ‘back to the floor’ at the All England Lawn Tennis Club for this year’s Wimbledon championships, becoming a security officer for the day.

Having completed mandatory training for security at the club, where Securicor Security has been contracted for the past 18 years, Douglas’ day included bag searches on Gate 3 (the general public) and Gate 13 (the players’ entrance), and working with the anti-ticket touting squad.

In addition to scanning former player Jana Novotna’s pass, Douglas had to face incidents that reminded him he was back in the front line. “BBC journalist Kate Adie wasn’t best pleased at having to undergo a bag search,” Douglas told SMT, “but there weren’t any players throwing tantrums!”
