The Edinburgh and Glasgow offices of NG Bailey are amalgamating, with the individual east and west coast operations being replaced by a ‘central belt’ emphasis.
“The customer base has changed since the offices were set up 15 years ago and there is only need for a single management office,” explained NG Bailey Glasgow branch director Colin Walker. The Edinburgh office will remain, but there is now a common management structure across central Scotland.
An unconfirmed number of redundancies have been made, with staff consultations due to continue. Ten staff have been transferred to the Glasgow office. Those involved are primarily from commercial and estimating departments.
N G Bailey was hit by insolvencies among main contractor clients in Scotland last year. “No redundancies were due to the liquidations,” stressed Walker. “Some liquidations affected us last year but this hasn’t affected the financial aspects of the company. [The market in] Edinburgh is quieter at the moment but we are optimistic about the market over central Scotland...we are on target to achieve our targets on profits.”
The firm currently has a £50 million turnover in Scotland.
