Kate Barker has branded off-site manufacturing a "red herring" that will not help solve the housing shortage in the near future.
The influential economist and author of the Treasury's review of housing supply told Housing Today she did believe OSM could boost housebuilding in the long term but said: "In the short term it's a bit of a red herring.
"The [labour] skills for off-site manufacture are rather different. How do we get from the industry we're in to there? At the moment, I don't think it has a role in speeding supply."
