In its response to the government’s consultation paper, Climate change: draft UK programme, the CIBSE has expressed concern that current government measures are “unlikely to stimulate the predicted reductions in emissions”.
The Institution told the DETR to set more challenging targets and make a substantial investment in new technologies and practices.
“CIBSE strongly urges that the goal of the 20% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2010 should become a firm commitment, backed by a clear programme of action and investment,” said the CIBSE secretary and chief executive Richard John.
The CIBSE also called for a clear “political will” from government to deliver a 60-70% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050.
