The Local Government Task Force (LGTF) has awarded six councils beacon status for this year's Rethinking Construction theme
Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Mid Devon District Council, Middlesborough Council, Norfolk County Council, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and St Helen's Metropolitan Borough Council were all successful.

They were judged on their adoption of the Rethinking Construction agenda, including principles such as best value, whole-life costing, partnership and investment in skills and training. The six councils will receive additional funding to further expand their best practice policies.

Chairman of the LGTF Tim Byles says: "This represents a groundbreaking achievement that should encourage other local authorities to better understand the benefits of building Rethinking Construction principles into their culture."
