BEAMA Installation president Geoff McCann has hit out at the Government for the effects its policies are having on the manufacturing sector.

Speaking at the Association’s annual conference, McCann said: “Our members live in the real world. They compete against companies operating in other countries who do not impose creeping restrictions to competitive working, or wage inflation created by bureaucracy. They have alternatives to manufacturing in this country and to stay competitive they are increasingly taking them.

“Do we want this to continue?” asked McCann, managing director of Electrak International. “The association has British in its name and we do not believe, whatever the ownership, that manufacturing inevitably has to disappear from these shores.”

m Electrium chief executive Chris Thomas is BEAMA Installation’s new vice president. Thomas will assume the role of president when the two-year term of Geoff McCann comes to an end in September 2005.
