Duncan Vessey, head of housing at Cross Keys Homes, talks to Victoria Madine about what he really wants

The job: Involvement manager

The employer: Cross Keys Homes in Peterborough was formed in October 2004 with 10,000 homes transferred from Peterborough council.

“Strategic development”

We are looking for a person who is a strategic thinker and very people-oriented. This job involves developing and planning our involvement service, and spending lots of time with tenants to encourage them to get more involved with the way their housing services are run.

“Engaging and empowering”

We haven’t asked for any particular qualifications or experience because this job is very much about getting on with people and being able to motivate and inspire: these qualities could be found in people from all sorts of backgrounds.

We need someone who is creative and who will have new ideas about how to involve tenants in the organisation.

“Support and guidance to managers and staff”

One thing that could give an applicant an edge would be experience in sourcing external funds to finance projects.

For example, someone who has worked in regeneration may know how to access funds for things like a landscaping project or art exhibition.

“Up to £31,557 pa, plus benefits”

This is a very important role in our organisation and the salary reflects this. You could join our generous final salary pension scheme and benefit from our occupational health schemes. We’d expect you to work 37 hours a week and be committed to flexible working.

Deadline: 22 April 2005
