Many of my peers expressed their dismay that minimum training standards were not included in the Private Security Industry Act 2001.
However, from SITO's point of view the very fact that civil servants didn't try to guess the security industry's training needs is a good thing.

We now have the opportunity to direct the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to the work that has already taken place in the sector, alongside forthcoming projects. Like many industry bodies, the BSIA is now working alongside SITO to set the industry's future training agenda.

Indeed, SITO is at the forefront of the Home Office-led Way Forward Group, itself tasked with considering future training requirements and how they will fit in with the operation of the SIA. We expect to be able to report back on our findings early this year.

The needs of those industry sectors not included in the terms and conditions of the Act are also receiving due consideration. New training, funding and access methods are currently under discussion, in particular with respect to both the systems and manufacturing sectors of the security industry.
