Birchall has designed and installed a range of eco-friendly mechanical systems at Birmingham’s largest new office scheme in a £3.2m contract with HBG Construction.

The building services firm was responsible for designing the rainwater harvesting, high-condensing boilers, free cooling ventilation, heat recovery and water leakage detection systems.

These facilities will serve Calthorpe House’s 9900 m2 of grade A office space.

The £40m building is only the second in the city to be awarded a BREEAM rating of ‘excellent’.

Birchall design engineer Steve Walley said: “The major environmental demands of this prestigious project called for an exceptionally rigorous design process.

“We are delighted that the building has already been awarded a BREEAM 'excellent' rating for its green credentials.”
