Boxall Sayer triumphed at the inaugural QS News Awards, which were held at Vinopolis in central London last Friday.
The firm won the best all round QS gong at the lunchtime ceremony, beating off a very strong shortlist that included Turner & Townsend, Gardiner & Theobald and Faithful & Gould.
The company’s chairman Clive Sayer accepted the award, which was given for both the growth achieved by the firm as well as the high quality of projects it has worked on.
Speaking before the awards were handed out, judge and leading client Steve McGuckin, head of project management at developer Land Securities, stressed that the issue of recruitment and training was a key one for the sector. “I don’t employ one QS over the other because they’ve got a glamorous office or amazing software... I employ them for the people they’ve got and their track record. People are their only real asset.”
Other winners included well-known industry figure David Bucknall, who was voted QS Champion of the Year for his sterling work in promoting the profession during his long career. Chim Lungu, a 26-year-old staff member at Turner & Townsend who came to the UK from Malawi aged 18, was named QS Young Achiever of the Year.
Firms that also won awards included Turner & Townsend, Faithful & Gould, the Thomson Gray Partnership, Maitland QS, Savant and Evolution IP. For a full list of winners see pages 11 to 21.
