Light scenarios ranging from narrow to wide beam can be created without any need to change the fitting or reflectors. Luminaires can be fitted with metal halide lamps of 35 W or 70 W as well as high pressure sodium lamps of 50 W or 100 W.
Extra mini means extra useful
GE Lighting has launched the GE Biax Extra Mini range of compact fluorescent lamps. GE claims that the Biax Extra Mini is so small, and looks so similar to standard incandescent lamps, that it can be used as a direct replacement in most domestic and commercial light fittings. The new lamp uses 80% less energy than the equivalent incandescent lamp but is 10% -15% smaller than previous compact fluorescent designs.
The Extra Mini lamps are available in a complete range of wattages, from 9 W to 20 W. They also come in incandescent look-alike shapes (glc, candle and reflector) as well as the classic compact fluorescent lamp design. The new lamps have an increased life of up to 15 000 hours which will reduce replacement and maintenance costs.
T5 provides longer life
Aura has added the T5 long life fluorescent tube to its range. Generally used in the 8 W version for emergency lighting applications, the T5 has a claimed lifetime of 20 000 hours, four times longer than a standard 8 W lamp. This longer service life means that the fluorescent tubes do not need to be replaced as often, reducing maintenance costs.
The Aura T5 long life lamp range is available from 8 W to 35 W with a life of up to 48 000 hours making them suitable for other types of illuminated signage. Featuring patented cathode construction and a high colour rendering of RA85, the Aura fluorescent tubes are designed to operate on high frequency electronic ballasts.
Design that imitates real life
Relux Informatik AG has launched version 3·5 of its Relux Professional lighting design software. This is a free of charge lighting design programme with a luminaire database comprising of products from 49 manufacturers. The programme now permits all Relux members to publish their luminaire models as 3D objects with the corresponding lighting engineering properties. The software allows users to create a room with all the properties it will include, and move around the 3D model to gain an idea of space and size. The 3D luminaire import facility allows the object to emit light exactly as it would in real operation, while objects in the model also reflect light exactly as they would. Two plug-ins are also available for Relux Professional 3·5. The Vision plug-in allows users to incorporate materials (such as brick walls) into their model that will behave exactly as they would in real life, offering a realistic representation. The Relux CAD plug in allows the lighting design package to interface with AutoCAD 2000 and above. This enables designers to take cad files into Relux and enter all their lighting calculations before putting the drawing back into AutoCAD, where it will then include all the true lighting design data.
Voyage into the light
Thorn Lighting has introduced the Voyager Economy bulkhead fitting. The unit is designed to provide emergency lighting for commercial and industrial applications and is manufactured from tough white polycarbonate with a clear diffuser, which has a honeycomb prism.
The luminaire is sealed to IP65 and is available with a kit of legend signs. Maintained and non-maintained versions are available. The self-contained fitting has an optional attachment that converts the base product into an illuminated double sided exit sign.
