The £22 million Millennium Bridge over the River Tyne between Newcastle and Gateshead is scheduled to open this summer.
The 850-tonne steel suspension bridge tilts using hydraulic rams to allow river traffic to pass. The areas controlling these mechanisms are protected by Gent 24's Xenon fire detectors. The system was fitted by Cormeton Electronics of Whitby.
