The Brighton Pavilion has undergone substantial refurbishment recently. As part of this, Arup Acoustics has created a world-class music venue from what was originally the Prince Regent's riding stables.

The stables, built in 1805, were convereted in the 1930s from an assembly hall to an art-deco concert venue. It's latest £22 million renovation aims to turn it into a venue for classical music.

Arup Acoustics has used a variety of techniques and equipment to achieve this. The Carmen sound enhancement system was selected for its sound quality, capacity for integration into the historic interior and system stability. It is based on an active wall principle which uses cells distributed around the room boudaries to to feed diffused reflections into the auditorium. With quiet air systems, improved building envelope sound insulation and achivement of high sound insulation from the adjacent Corn Exchange, the Dome now offers the highest acoustic standards.
