The consultancy's research and development group is part of a winning consortium for the international research project known as IDEEB – Intelligently Designed Energy Efficient Buildings. The pan-European scheme, aims to increase the understanding of a building as a whole energy system.
Nick Cullen, associate, research and development, says: "Hoare Lea's key objective is to reduce carbon emissions from buildings, but without compromising the quality of the indoor climate. This is a challenge but one which we are confident of achieving. It's what engineering the built environment is all about, doing more with less."
Hoare Lea is one of 12 organisations from five countries participating in IDEEB. These include Faber Maunsell, Aalborg University (Denmark), Swedish construction contractor NCC, the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and the Institute for European Law (Greece).
One of the key aims of the project is to establish pan-European guidelines for the design of energy efficient buildings which will optimise the potential for renewable and sustainable technology.
