The British Security Industry Association has been commended in two categories at the Trade Association Forum 2003 Best Practice Awards.
The association gained plaudits in both the Membership Success and Website of the Year Award categories.

BSIA Director of Communications Catherine Park said: "We are delighted to have gained two commendations in a competition that attracted entries from 80 trade associations."

The BSIA website www.bsia.co.uk, which attracts in excess of 70,000 hits per month, was commended for promoting members effectively, projecting an authoritative role for the association and being a key reference source for all security-related issues.

The BSIA membership recruitment initiative in 2002 was commended for achieving an 18 per cent increase in membership, including the recruitment of the association's 500th member.

  • The BSIA gave wholehearted support to the Security Industry Authority (SIA) at its official launch in London to oversee implementation of the Private Security Industry Act 2001.

BSIA Chief Executive David Dickinson said: "Professional security companies welcome regulation. Yes, it will cause considerable change, but this will be change for the better … much needed change. The BSIA lobbied for regulation for well over a decade before the PSI Act was ratified because we believe strongly in the potential of the industry, once a minority of unscrupulous operators can no longer operate."
