The BSIA has launched a new regional affiliate scheme for the Security Systems Section to enable companies to experience a range of membership benefits at a reduced rate for 12 months before deciding whether to join as full members.
The Security Systems Section requested the scheme to encourage more companies to gain the benefits of trade association representation. The sector already has more than 100 members and an active regional network across the UK.

Steve Kimber, chairman of the BSIA Security Systems Section and MD of Southern Monitoring Services Ltd, said: "By becoming a regional affiliate, a company can 'try out' membership to see if it is of benefit to them before becoming a full member. Ultimately the Section wants to represent all quality intruder alarm installers in the UK."

He continued that more representation would mean the Section could be more effective in influencing decisions in standards development and police liaison.

Regional affiliates would be able to display a logo and have the option of attending BSIA events and seminars at member rates, attend regional meetings, gain technical support and use the business advice helpline. After 12 months, regional affiliates will be invited to become full section members.

The scheme is only open to companies whose primary security activity is in security systems installation and monitoring centres. Companies will need to meet ISO 9000 with an UKAS accredited inspectorate, incorporating the relevant British Standards and there will be no dilution of existing entry criteria and vetting checks.
