The BSIA has launched a guide for installers to BS 8418:2003, the code of practice for the installation and remote monitoring of detector-activated CCTV systems.

The guide covers the main elements of the standard, including CCTV system design considerations, detector/camera positioning and configuration, CCTV performance and integrity commissioning, and audio challenge. Only remotely monitored CCTV systems that are installed to BS 8418 can qualify for a Unique Reference Number, which is issued in accordance with the revised ACPO policy by the local police authority to guarantee a Level 1, or effectively immediate, police response.

The BSIA has also launched a guide for end-users to assist in compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act. It outlines the implications for access control systems, focusing on securing an access point and also on authorising technology. The guide provides a breakdown of the types of equipment available, and the degree to which they are likely to be compliant. It also gives advice on how systems can be adapted to comply.
