The Association – which now represents over 570 private security companies was formed on 23 January 1967 by eight member companies: Associated Fire Alarms Ltd, Burgot Automatic Alarms Ltd, Chubb & Sons Lock & Safe Company Ltd, Electric Protection Services Ltd, Factoryguards Ltd, the Ratner Safe Company Ltd, Securicor Ltd and Security Express Ltd.

Commenting on what is a significant milestone for the industry’s Trade Association, BSIA chief executive David Dickinson told SMT: “This is a very proud moment for all those associated with the BSIA. So much has been achieved over the last four decades. During that time the security industry has changed almost beyond recognition. However, the principles of the BSIA and its relevance have remained steadfast and true.”

Dickinson continued: “In 2006 we launched a new corporate identity, new Vision and Mission Statements and moved into more modern premises at Kirkham House. In doing all of these things, we have retained important links with the Association’s past, while being mindful of the need to constantly adapt to meet our members’ ever-changing needs. We therefore approach this milestone both celebrating the past and planning for the future.”
