The increasing focus of the industry on the potentially massive domestic installation sector has been given a boost with the launch of BT redcare home monitoring, especially tailored for general residential applications.
BT redcare home monitoring is the domestic version of the leading alarm monitoring system.

Dual path and classified as Grade 2 under EN50131, it complies with police requirements on confirmed activations as defined in DD243.

As such, it is the only redcare quality domestically focused intruder alarm system designed to guarantee Level 1 police response if activated.

BT redcare home monitoring uses a landline, which can be BT or any other telecoms operator, with 02's GSM mobile network as a back up.

The primary path is polled at least daily. The equipment installed at the customer's premises continuously monitors its connection and, if one link fails, or is cut, the other generates a notification to the redcare system and then on to the alarm receiving centre.

Most domestic alarm signalling systems are currently based on unmonitored digital communicators, which do not alert ARCs if the line is cut or fails for any other reason, and so are no longer Grade 2 compliant.

Jon Furmston, chief executive of BT redcare, said: "New industry standards, an ever tightening police policy on false alarms and a more threatening environment all emphasise the need for individuals to take responsibility for their own protection rather than relying on others. Old style alarm bells and unmonitored systems neither deter determined burglars nor meet the increasingly stringent requirements of police and insurers.

"For redcare installers it now means they can expand into the general domestic market with quite simply the best value all round package that money can buy."

Installers can register for a redcare home monitoring account by visiting www.redcare.bt.com where they can also find a full installation guide.

Once registered they will receive a free training CD as part of the welcome pack and have access to a free telephone help desk. BT redcare also provides a range of other training services for its registered installers.
