Bill Wright comes in as chairman

Phil Buckle has been named as the new director general of the Electrical Safety Council.

Buckle joined the charity as director of charitable affairs in January 2007. The organisation has been prolific in its activities sunsequently, which have ranged from raising awareness of Part P and campaigning for better enforcement, lobbying for the inclusion of electrical safety information in Home Information Packs and developing educational information for primary schools. The charity also hosted its first International Electrical Product Safety Conference in London last year.

Commenting on his new role, Buckle said: “Ambitious plans have been set out for the Electrical Safety Council over the next few years and I look forward to leading the charity in developing new opportunities to extend the scope of its activities and strengthen its influence amongst consumers and industry.”

The Council also has a new chairman. Bill Wright, corporate energy and environment manager for the John Lewis Partnership has taken over the reigns for a two year tenure, effective from 1 April 2009.

As chairman, Bill heads the Electrical Safety Board, which has responsibility for setting the overall strategic direction of the Electrical Safety Council, and the group’s performance.
