Bucknall Austin is overseeing a major regeneration project on a former industrial site in the West Midlands.

The firm has been appointed lead consultant by the Walsall Regeneration Company (WRC) to redevelop a 54-acre site in Darlaston. The firm will head up a team of specialists that will spend six months drawing up a delivery strategy for the land, which is close to the M6 motorway.

WRC chairman Ben Reid said Bucknall Austin had beaten off bids from five rivals to win the commission. "Such a major project needs a high level of expertise and outstanding leadership qualities," he said.

WRC estimates that regenerating the Darlaston site could create between 2,500 and 4,500 jobs. The plan is for the site to house logistics and distribution operations as well as start-up businesses.
