Nick Cumersdale, PCM, Cable & Wireless Call Centre, Swansea

Speed and accuracy impressed the judges in this contract. Cumersdale spent £10.25m in just 18 weeks using 46 trade contractors. The client was impressed by Cumersdale's honesty in admitting that the timescale was so tight that there was a chance it would be missed.

Neil Crutchley, Simons Construction, Butlins (Phase II), Skegness

To hit the summer season, Crutchley had to build a new tensioned-fabric pavilion along with a bowling alley and cinemas in 19 weeks. The £15m JCT80 contract was completed on time.

Darryn Parry, Midas Construction, Interior fit-out Millennium Stadium, Cardiff

The programme was already four weeks behind when Parry started fitting out the bars and kitchens of the stadium. And Midas had no contractual rights to site access either. Parry appointed a logistics manager to make sure materials were delivered to his 400 labourers just in time.

Frank Sime, Laing, 10 Lower Grosvenor Place, London

The clients Grovesnor Estate and housing developer Redrow were concerned about neighbours in this swish part of London. Sime immediately set up a meeting at a local hotel with 200 local residents and won them over.

Jeff Taylor, Kier Southern, Tesco Extra, Watford

Managing a client which is also project controller, store manager and re-fit mana-ger with all the internal politics that entails was a tough job. Jeff Taylor also had an unusual workforce comprising 70 domestic subcontract workers and 40 subcontract workers appointed by the client directly.
