The new edition of CIBSE Guide D: Transportation Systems in Buildings, with a cover graced by Renzo Piano’s sketch of his proposed London Bridge Tower, will be formally launched at the CIBSE Lifts Group Annual Seminar on 9 November.

Every chapter has been fully reviewed and updated by a team of lift specialists and building services engineers chaired by John Bashford, then edited by Dr Gina Barney. This review has taken account of the substantial changes in legislation since the previous edition.

The guide considers all aspects of lifts and escalators including interior circulation, types of lifts and escalators, firefighting and evacuation lifts, components and installation, lift drives and controls, lift traffic control, escalators and moving walks, facilities for people with disabilities, electrical systems, environmental conditions, energy consumption, remote monitoring and alarms, commissioning, testing and examination, maintenance and modernisation of installations. There is also a comprehensive and up-to-date list of legislation, standards, codes of practice and an extensive glossary of terms.

Its broad sweep means that this guide offers authoritative guidance not only to building services engineers but also to architects, surveyors and facilities and building managers.
