Coop Himmelb(l)au has revealed designs for Albania’s new parliament.

The 28,000m² project in Tirana is the first Albanian project for the Vienna-based architect.

At the centre of the building is the parliamentary hall, which features a glazed cone wrapped in perforated steel.

The architect says the steel skin offer solar control, thermal insulation, natural ventilation and noise protection.

The public will be able to watch proceedings from the landscaped roof of the Parliament building, which will also feature offices and a cone-shaped entrance area.
