University College London’s new Student Centre is innovative, diverse, digitally enabled and focused on sustainability – just like its users.
What will the university of the 21st century look like? Will it be an update of the classic quadrangles of Oxford and Cambridge? Will it be a reworking of the brutalist pavilions of the 1960s that often envisaged university buildings as urbane seats of learning set within a natural landscape? Or will it be defined by the new generation of student accommodation springing up across the country, often of questionable architectural quality but commercially indicative of a buoyant higher education sector? Or will it be something different entirely?
