Buro Happold will act as services consultant on the next stage of the Eden Project when work begins on the Education centre. Dubbed Big Build 2, the centre has been design by Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners who were the architects behind the original scheme.

The design is inspired by plant architecture and will echo the spiral at the centre of a sunflower or pinecone, with a huge canopy letting in light through the roof.

Buro Happold is working closely with Grimshaws, advising on the building form to ensure it performs to the highest environmental standards. It is also looking at strategies to develop energy from food waste and local wood cuttings. Construction is due to start in early 2004.
