Buro Happold is part of a consortium headed by Kajima (Europe) UK approved by Tyneside council as the preffered bidder for the construction of four new local schools.
Buro Happold will provide building services engineering, structural, fire and geotechnical engineering as well as access consultancy. Architect Seymour Harris Keppie is also part of the consortium.

The PFI project is part of an overall £100 million capital investment in Tyneside schools. Funding for this phase of the school investment programme is provided through a £33.5 million PFI, awarded by the Department for Education and Skills.

Following selection of the preferred bidder, detailed negotiations will now take place leading to completion of the contract in the next few months. As part of the PFI deal, Kajima will provide maintenance of the schools through the 30 year contract, along with cleaning, catering and grounds maintenance.
