The CIBSE Lifts Group is offering a bursary of £1000 to an engineer or a student in science and engineering to carry out research into lifts in different building types.

Lift expert Dr Gina Barney said: “CIBSE Guide D identifies 12 types of buildings in which lifts are installed. We know there are over a quarter of a million lifts installed in the UK; however, we do not know the percentage installed into each of these building types.”

Applicants should write PO Box 7, Sedburgh, LA10 5GE, enclosing a one-page CV and a statement on why they should be considered.
