Scheme is an elaboration of previously consented office-to-hotel conversion
Camden Council has granted planning permission for two separate schemes to extend a pair of central buildings in central London.
Plans submitted by Studio Moren and approved on Thursday (30 July) evening would see the demolition of 4 Great Queen Street and 62 Parker Street and the erection of a new seven-storey building, as part of the office-to-hotel conversion of Kingsway House.

The plans are an enhancement of a 2024 permission to add a seventh and eighth storey mansard extension to Kingsway House and to change its use.
The new proposals bring the extension to Kingsway House itself down by a storey, with the newly proposed demolition-and-rebuild component next door on Great Queen Street adding more floorspace for the proposed 80-room aparthotel.
At early stages of design, the massing proposed for Great Queen Street aimed to match the height of the consented Kingsway House scheme, creating a unified street frontage while responding to the differing scales of the surrounding context.
However, further development saw Kingsway House by one storey and Great Queen Street by two storeys. These adjustments helped “achieve a scale more appropriate to the surrounding streetscape while maintaining a coherent relationship between the two frontages”, according to the design and access statement.
The two upper stories on Great Queen Street have been set back to reduce their visual impact and create “a more refined transition with the surrounding buildings”..
At the same meeting, the council granted approval for the erection of an extension, ranging between two and seven storeys, to the Four Points Flex hotel on Upper Woburn Place in Bloomsbury.
The plans by Maith Design, which would increase the size of an existing hotel, will also see a mansard roof added to the buildings, as well as a basement extension and ancillary works.
The Kingsway House scheme was approved with a nine-to-one vote, while Four Points Flex was unanimously approved.
