Rising crime in two retail areas of Birmingham has resulted in a new 15-camera system, being installed by Security Design Centre supported by West Midlands Police.
The system oversees Acocks Green and Spark Hill/ Spark Brook which had suffered from robberies and burglaries, assaults, vandalism, anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping.
PC Grant Moss, Crime Reduction Officer, said: “This was the only local retail area that didn’t have CCTV and it was becoming apparent that crime was rising. It was critical to reduce the shoppers fear of crime and ensure the long term future of both retail areas.
Installed were 15 JVC C655EB dome cameras with images viewed on JVC TM-H170G monitors in the Elite Security control room in Birmingham.
The control room has a radio base station which links to the retail units. This has an inbuilt panic button that is numbered in conjunction with the cameras. In the event of an incident an officer can instantly view images from the corresponding camera.
Hugh Toland, National Accounts Director for Security Design Centre said “The camera images are always clear and work very well in varying lighting conditions, especially during dark winter nights.”
