CSCS has a new card. Since 2002 it has issued “non-availability letters” to those whose jobs were not covered by the scheme. But in August the Construction Related Occupation Card, or CRO card, replaced these. It’s white, describes holder’s occupation and carries a photograph of the cardholder. You’ve got to pass the Health & Safety Test to get one. So if you’re still hanging on to a dog-eared non-availability letter, you’re advised to apply for a CRO card as soon as possible because the Major Contractors Group and the National Contractors Federation said they won’t accept them on their sites after 31 December 2005.
