Role model
“I think the work of David Page, an independent housing consultant, on successful communities has been really important.”
If you could interview anyone, who would you choose and what would you ask?
“I’d ask Bob Dylan who he wrote Blood on the Tracks for.”
If you were housing minister what would you do to improve the housing situation in the UK?
“First of all I would stop calling it ‘social housing’. It should just be called housing for people. And once people are in their housing I’d like to see them have much more choice over what services they get. I’d also make sure we never build another social rented housing estate again.”
Favourite book
“The Rights of Man by Tom Paine.”
Favourite TV programme
“Frasier.”
Favourite film
“Some Like it Hot.”
What is your housing situation?
“I am an owner-occupier.”
Any advice or tips?
“A recent survey found that those under the age of 24 do not want to live in social housing or work in the sector. I think the challenge for the sector is to turn around preconceptions, because until we make our housing attractive to young people it is no wonder they don’t want to work for us.”
