How did you get that?
“I had spent six years in commercial property management and residential leasehold management. The parent organisation of a management company I worked for went into receivership so I took the decision to transfer to Hanover, which had acquired the sheltered housing.”
Any advice for people moving into the sector?
“Learn to juggle differing and often changing priorities. Try to be objective and open to new ideas and change.”
Favourite hobbies
“Family, motorsport, badminton, reading and cooking.”
Who would you like to interview and what would you ask them?
“Winston Churchill. I would ask him how he managed to contain clinical depression while under extreme pressures … and whether he inhaled those fat cigars.”
What do you enjoy most about working in housing?
“The variety of people you meet and the satisfaction you can get from making a difference to people’s lives.”
What’s your most memorable incident at work?
“I once called on a resident of a leasehold sheltered scheme in Billingshurst. I was confronted by a woman in her early sixties who was wearing only a nightie. She was just running a bath and asked me if I would like to come in. I declined, at which she said: “I might have snow on the mountains but the fire is still hot!’”
What is your dream job?
“Teammate to Michael Schumacher at Ferrari, or a worker on a nature reserve in Kenya.”
