New homes are failing to keep pace with high-tech lifestyles as more than half of buyers report that their homes do not have enough electrical sockets.
A survey by the Copper Development Association found that although socket numbers in most new homes met or exceeded NHBC guidelines, this was not sufficient to meet homebuyers' needs. Buyers want dedicated sockets for kitchen appliances, better distribution within rooms and sockets in garages and lofts. The CDA says socket provision should be trebled, in line with Institution of Electrical Engineers guidelines. The survey results are available from the CDA (tel: 01727 731200).
