The pay of charity chief executives has risen faster this year than that of their colleagues in housing associations but they are still paid on average £20,000 less than their RSL peers.

A survey of chief executive pay in voluntary organisations, including housing and homelessness charities, has found that pay rose about 5% between 2003 and 2004 to a national average of £52,053.

However a separate poll of housing association chief executives published in March found their pay had risen 4.5% to an average of £73,126 across the country.

The charity survey, by the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations, showed chief executive pay in the sector lagged behind local government, where pay for the top job varied between £72,400 and £129,900.

Minster and Hyde have similar values and ethos; this is a partnership that will strengthen both organisations.”

This will consolidate Hyde’s foothold in the government’s M11 housing-growth corridor and give 1800-home Minster development opportunities it might otherwise loose out on to bigger rivals.

The announcement follows a wave of merger talks in the east of England including Anglia and Circle 33.
