Ciaran McQuaid of Paul Braham & Sons, Newry, County Down is the winner of the 2004 ECA Edmundson Award. The 19-year old apprentice won the title against competition from nearly 1000 other eligible trainees.
To win the award McQuaid had to gain a high grade in his City & Guilds examination work and a mark of above 95% in the industry skills test. He then faced a regional interview and was one of the nine candidates selected to appear in London in front of a final judging panel.
The achievement was announced at the 30th Apprentice of the Year lunch in London, hosted by Edmundson Electrical md Douglas McNair, who sponsor the event in partnership with the ECA. McQuaid wins a £1000 cheque from Edmundson Electrical and a week’s trip to Spain as a guest of Vent Axia.
The other apprentices who were successful in reaching the final stages of the competition will receive their awards at local presentations hosted by Edmundson Electrical regional directors.
